Skullcandy Lowrider Headphones

Updated on March 19, 2013

Skullcandy Lowrider Headphones

I've always had terribly bad luck when it comes to headphones... Or, more accurately, I've always been really bad at taking care of headphones that I've owned. I went through a phase a couple of years ago of constantly having to keep buying new head phones (or earphones... I used in-ear buds at the time) because after a few weeks, or a couple of months if I was lucky, of use... the left one would stop working. Always the left. I'm not quite sure what I did wrong, but it was always the same problem.

After breaking probably by 20th set of earphones, I decided it was time for a change. I was tired of spending money on new earphones that I wasn't responsible enough to take care of! I'd noticed more and more people around using on-ear or over-ear headphones, but I was reluctant at first because I figured they'd be a pain to carry around when I wasn't using them (at work or in class) and would take up too much room in my bag. That, and the thought of what they probably cost put me off for a little while and I bought some more ear buds.

Then I came across Skullcandy Lowrider Headphones one day while walking aimlessly around HMV (a record/entertainment store here in the UK). They caught my eye immediately because a) They looked cool b) They were my favorite color and c) I'd heard of Skullcandy and knew they had a reputation for making good quality headphones. The fact that they were a lot cheaper than I'd expected definitely persuaded me to take a closer look, too. The seal on the deal came when I realized that these headphones FOLD UP and become quite compact. See below for the proof!

That was it! I was sold! I walked out of there five minutes later as the proud owner of some cool looking, purple, comfortable Skullcandy Lowrider Headphones.

What I love about the Skullcandy Lowriders

Before the Skullcandy headphones, I'd tried a couple of others - some No Fear on-ears, and some JVC over-ears. What makes the Skullcandy Lowrider headphones the best I've ever owned comes down to a number of things. Of course, the sound quality is the ultimate decision maker for me. I need headphones that are loud enough to cancel out outside noise, but that aren't going to damage my hearing. The Skullcandy headphones do that perfectly. The sound is bassy, loud and clear without any distortion or "tinny" sounds.

Comfort is another major factor. I have quite a few ear piercings and the Skullcandy Lowrider headphones are soft enough and comfortable enough to not irritate those piercings when I'm wearing them. They fit nicely and mold perfectly to my ears.

The fact that they fold up and can be stored away is another thing that I love. As noted earlier, I'm really clumsy when it comes to taking care of headphones and I think if the Skullcandy Lowrider's didn't fold to make them compact, I'd have probably broken them somehow, too! It's definitely a great convenience and I love that I can fit them into my bag without taking up too much space.

THEY LOOK COOL! The colorful design with the Skullcandy logo was instantly appealing to me. They come in a wide variety of colors to suit different tastes. For me, the purple was a no-brainer. It's my favorite color and at the time of purchase, I had purple hair, so they matched brilliantly!

Great for use at home

Skullcandy Lowrider Headphones are perfect if you need to use them at home to listen to music (or play games, watch videos etc) on the computer. They block out any other sounds that may distract you such as the TV or other people around talking.

Perfect when out and about

I love using these headphones when I'm outside, walking around or waiting for the bus. The noise cancelling works wonders and I often feel like I'm in my own little world.

Ideal for public transport

This is probably the most important thing for me. I don't drive, so I spend a lot of time getting around on public transport and I need headphones that block out EVERYTHING so I can listen to my music to pass the journey. Even on busy trains, the noise cancellation and volume on the Skullcandy Lowriders is enough to block out all other sounds.

Even in the rain!

I live in Manchester, aka the rain capital of England. It rains here more than it doesn't, and I can use these headphones while out in the rain without worrying about them being damaged.

They just look COOL!

One of the things I worried about in the past before purchasing on-ear headphones was that I'd look stupid or they wouldn't suit me. The great thing about Skullcandy Lowrider Headphones is that they're not too big and bulky. They're a comfortable fit and they don't stand out too much.
